FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) is investigating a fatal bicycle crash that happened near Penderwood Wednesday afternoon.
At around 12:15 p.m., officers responded to the West Ox Road and Tilton Valley Drive intersection after a person riding an electric bike was hit by a Kia Optima.
3 hurt in Fairfax County crash, Technical Rescue units respond
So far, detectives believe the bicyclist was headed westbound on Tilton Valley Drive and turned left onto soundbound West Ox Road. The Kia was also heading southbound on West Ox Road when it hit the bicyclist.
The Kia driver remained on the scene of the crash and was not hurt. FCPD does not think speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
The bicyclist, Richard Albrecht, 89, was taken to the hospital where he died.
