World Sailing, previously known as the International Sailing Federation, has chosen Jeddah Yacht Club as the venue for the 2024 Junior Global Sailing Yacht Challenge Championship. Organized by the Saudi Sailing Federation, the event is scheduled to run from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2.
The Women’s Global Sailing Yacht Challenge Championship will follow shortly after, from Dec. 5-8. These events highlight the Saudi Sailing Federation’s achievements and mark pivotal steps in its mission to promote sailing in Saudi Arabia.
Quanhai Li, President of World Sailing, expressed enthusiasm about hosting the championships at this exceptional location. “This marks the first event organized by the International Sailing Federation in Saudi Arabia, reflecting the Kingdom’s dedication to fostering diverse sports and enhancing its global reputation,” he stated.
He emphasized that sailing is one of the world’s fastest-growing sports and noted the championship as an excellent opportunity to promote and develop the sport in the region.
Samia Baghdadi, CEO of the Saudi Sailing Federation, described the event as a historic milestone for sailors worldwide. “It’s a unique chance to showcase Jeddah’s potential as a vibrant center for marine sports. Hosting these championships at the Jeddah Yacht Club will play a transformative role in the growth of sailing in Saudi Arabia. We look forward to welcoming all participating teams,” she said.
David Graham, CEO of World Sailing, highlighted the significance of selecting Jeddah Yacht Club as the host venue. “This decision is a major step in elevating the sport on a global scale,” he remarked, adding that the Red Sea region offers tremendous opportunities for programs benefiting communities across the Gulf, Africa, and beyond.
He also noted the event’s potential to inspire sailing enthusiasts globally.
