The New York Giants are facing a wave of injuries in Week 14, which could lead to a tough matchup against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon.
To address this, they made a roster move to strengthen the interior of their defensive line. On Saturday, the Giants promoted rookie defensive lineman Casey Rogers to the active roster, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Rogers, an undrafted free agent from Oregon, has been with the team since signing in April and has spent the season on the practice squad. He will make his regular-season debut on Sunday.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 300 pounds, Rogers brings versatility to New York’s defensive line. According to Art Stapleton of North Jersey, Giants defensive line coach Andre Patterson noted that Rogers is capable of playing all three positions on the line, praising his football IQ and physicality. Patterson added that if he didn’t believe Rogers had potential, he wouldn’t still be on the team.
As a senior at Oregon in 2023, Rogers recorded 22 tackles, three tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks over 14 games. He joined the Giants’ practice squad after the draft, giving him time to develop behind the scenes.
With All-Pro defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence out for the season and injuries affecting other defensive linemen like Rakeem Nuñez-Roches, D.J. Davidson, and Jordon Riley, the Giants needed to add depth to their defensive line. Rogers now has the chance to prove himself during the remainder of the season.
