Anthony Averett, a former standout cornerback for the Alabama Crimson Tide, has signed with the Houston Texans practice squad.
Averett, who most recently played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, brings a wealth of NFL experience to Houston. Drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, he has also played for the Raiders, Lions, and 49ers during his seven-year professional career.
At Alabama, Averett was a key contributor to the Crimson Tide’s defensive success, recording 98 tackles and 17 pass deflections.
Averett joins a growing contingent of former Alabama players on the Texans roster, including notable talents like John Metchie III, Will Anderson Jr., Christian Harris, and Henry To’oTo’o. This infusion of Crimson Tide talent could potentially give the Texans a competitive edge as they strive for playoff success.
