It’s been a challenging week for USC football. Following NCAA probation and a $50,000 fine, the Trojans took another hit as their four-star defensive lineman recruit, Hayden Lowe, flipped his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes. Lowe, who had just been visited by USC head coach Lincoln Riley, cited the chance to work with Miami’s defensive ends coach, Jason Taylor, a six-time Pro Bowler, as a key factor in his decision.
Lowe praised Taylor, emphasizing the value of being coached by someone who has firsthand experience at the highest levels of football. “In order to be the best, you have to be coached by the best,” Lowe shared, admiring Taylor’s unique experience against top players and his success in winning Super Bowls and setting records.
As one of the top edge rushers in the 2025 class, Lowe has an ideal frame at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds and excels both at stopping the run and rushing the quarterback. His commitment to Miami is a significant loss for USC, as the Trojans’ recruiting class ranking dropped from No. 10 to No. 12 following his departure.
Adding to USC’s troubles, there’s speculation that Julian Lewis, a highly-rated quarterback in USC’s 2025 class, may also reconsider his commitment. Predictions from multiple recruiting analysts suggest that Lewis could flip to Colorado, and he is scheduled to visit Georgia soon. The Trojans’ struggles on the field seem to be impacting their recruiting momentum off the field, as prospects like Lewis and Lowe appear drawn to other programs.
As USC heads into its final three games against Nebraska, UCLA, and Notre Dame, a strong finish could help the Trojans regain confidence and stabilize their recruiting.
