Stephanie White will take over as head coach of the Indiana Fever, replacing Christie Sides, who was let go on October 27.
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Fever named their new head coach on Friday, welcoming back a familiar face to the franchise.
White, who previously coached the Fever in 2015 and 2016 and played for them from 2000 to 2004, returns to Indianapolis to lead the team once again. The announcement follows her recent departure from the Connecticut Sun, where she had served as head coach for the past two seasons. Now, White will have the opportunity to work with former top draft picks Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston.
A native of West Lebanon, Indiana, and a Purdue alumna, White has deep ties to the Fever, having spent six seasons with the team, both as head coach and assistant coach from 2011 to 2014.
“As we begin a new era for the Fever, I am excited to welcome Stephanie back to the organization,” said Kelly Krauskopf, Fever President of Basketball Operations. “She is woven into the fabric of this franchise, both as a former player and part of our championship coaching staff. Her basketball IQ and leadership are unmatched, and she fully understands our culture. I’m confident she can lead our players to the next level.”
White expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m incredibly honored to return to Indiana and lead the Fever at such a pivotal time in the franchise’s history and in women’s sports overall. This team is committed to winning, and I’m eager to work towards another WNBA title for our incredible fans.”
With 17 combined seasons as a WNBA player and coach, White brings extensive experience to her role. In her first tenure as the Fever’s head coach, she led the team to a 37-31 record, including a trip to the 2015 WNBA Finals and a postseason appearance in 2016. She also played a key role as an assistant coach during the Fever’s 2012 championship season.
The Fever will formally introduce White in a news conference on Monday.
