CHARLOTTE, N.C. — This next segment is for all you outdoor enthusiasts out there. It’s center around an event combining fitness, fun, and giving back.
Spencer Lueders joined us to tell us more about the Second Annual Dam to Dam standup paddle boarding event. On Friday, June 20, 24 Foundation will launch its Second Annual Dam to Dam standup paddle boarding event on the waters of the Catawba River.
Participants will paddle 24 miles from the Mountain Island Lake Dam to the Lake Wylie Dam. Lueder says “Come and paddle and help support and raise awareness for those struggling with cancer.” No paddleboard experience is necessary, but an application is required as the event will be limited to 50 paddleboards. He added: “Paddleboards can be piloted by an individual or a team of two. For optional two-person teams, one member would be on the paddleboard and the other in a support boat. Team members can switch positions as needed throughout the event.”
You can participate as an individual or in teams of two. A post-paddle celebration and awards ceremony will be held for paddlers and their guests. Dam to Dam is an 11-hour journey that is fun and relaxing, but at times will challenge you mentally and physically. Whether you are a cancer survivor, caregiver, or someone who wants to make a difference, you are in for something very unique and special. There is no registration fee, but each paddler agrees to fund-raise a minimum of $1500 in order to participate. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, April 1st at 24foundation.org/damtodam. Applicants will be notified by April 7 if they have been chosen to participate. All gear – a paddleboard, paddle, and personal floatation device – will be provided for each participant.
