Garmin has started to roll out a new beta update, version 28.02, for some Fenix 6 smartwatch users. It arrives shortly after the last release, version 28.01, tackling another recently uncovered issue linked to maps. A new public beta update has started to roll out to the Garmin Fenix 6 Pro smartwatches. Beta version 28.02 has reached 50% of eligible users to date, according to a recent post in the Garmin forum. This is a relatively minor update, listing one bug fix.
The change log states that Garmin has tackled a “possible issue” that is linked with the popularity heatmap, a tool showing users favoured routes or trails for running and cycling in their area. According to the release notes, users experienced this problem during routing and map drawing.
Version 28.02 arrives a couple of weeks after the last release, beta version 28.01. This earlier update resolved an issue that caused the music controls widget to shut down unexpectedly. It was available for a broader range of watches, including the Fenix 6, Marq, Enduro (curr. $349.99 at Amazon), Quatix 6 and Tactix Delta smartwatches.
You can download the beta version 28.02 update via Wi-Fi on Garmin Fenix 6 Pro watches by going to Menu > System > Software Update > Check For Updates. The company lists this as a “release candidate”, meaning a public version of the software update could be released in the near future, bringing the latest bug fixes to all users of the Garmin Fenix 6 and related smartwatches.
