According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Green Bay Packers signed defensive end Jeremiah Martin to their practice squad on Tuesday. Martin, who played college football at Texas A&M and Washington, was an NFL rookie last season. He began his career as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns, later signing a reserve/future contract with the New York Giants after the season.
Following his release by the Giants post-draft, Martin rejoined the Browns for the preseason but was waived at the cutdown deadline. He then signed with the United Football League’s Arlington Renegades, who traded him to the Birmingham Stallions on the same day.
Martin gained attention during his breakout 2022 season at Washington, earning first-team All-Pac-12 honors and recording 8.5 sacks, a significant leap from his total of one sack in his previous four college seasons.
The Packers currently have 17 players on their practice squad, the maximum allowed, meaning a corresponding roster move will be necessary to accommodate Martin. There are no reports yet on who might be released, but it’s notable that Deslin Alexandre is the only defensive end currently on the practice squad. Wilson also reported that the Packers worked out defensive tackle Keith Randolph Jr., who was with the Chicago Bears this preseason, and defensive end David Ugwoegbu alongside Martin, indicating their intent to strengthen the defensive line.
