John Allore, the Budget Director for the City of Durham, North Carolina, tragically lost his life during a morning bicycle ride on March 30, 2023. At approximately 7 a.m., Allore was cycling on Bradshaw Quarry Road near Orange Grove Road in Orange County when he was struck from behind by a vehicle. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Karen Denisse Maldonado from Efland, has been charged with failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. citeturn0search3

Allore, 59, had a distinguished career with the City of Durham, joining in 1999 as an accountant and serving in various finance roles before being appointed Budget Director in January 2022. Colleagues remember him as a dedicated and passionate public servant.
