Official Jaguars News : Jaguars Adds Another Super Bowl-winning QB To The Team As Replacement For Injured Trevor Lawrence.

With Trevor Lawrence sidelined, the Jacksonville Jaguars are taking steps to strengthen their quarterback position.

On Tuesday, the Jaguars announced the signing of veteran QB John Wolford to their practice squad. The 29-year-old Wolford, who went undrafted out of Wake Forest, was part of the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl-winning team in 2021 as Matthew Stafford’s backup. He also started several games for the Rams in 2022 when Stafford was injured and spent the 2023 season as a backup for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Wolford was waived by the Bucs before the 2024 season and had remained unsigned since then.

Lawrence, a former Pro Bowler, is currently in concussion protocol after suffering a brutal hit from Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair in Week 13 (video here). Al-Shaair has been suspended by the NFL for the incident.

With the Jaguars currently sitting at 2-10, tied for the worst record in the league, it’s possible Lawrence could be shut down for the remainder of the season. As a result, the Jaguars are expected to move forward with Mac Jones as their starting QB for the rest of 2024, with CJ Beathard serving as the backup and Wolford available as an emergency third option.
