Official Vikings News : Minnesota Vikings announce the signing of Top Veteran, following his release from Giants

Daniel Jones has a new team.

The former New York Giants quarterback is joining the Minnesota Vikings for the remainder of this season, according to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport late confirmed that Jones will sign with the Vikings’ practice squad, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the contract is worth $375,000 for the rest of the year. After being released by the Giants on Saturday, Jones cleared waivers on Monday. The 2019 first-round pick experienced a rollercoaster six seasons in New York, with his career taking a downturn after a strong 2022 campaign.

Through the first 10 games of the 2024 season, Jones threw for 2,070 yards, with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, while the Giants struggled with a 2-8 record. In his six years as a starter, he only had one winning season, making the playoffs in 2022 and securing a wild card win against the Vikings.

Now, Jones will join the 9-2 Vikings, where he will work under head coach Kevin O’Connell and serve as a backup to quarterback Sam Darnold, who also left New York before finding a role in Minnesota. The Vikings’ roster also includes quarterbacks Nick Mullens and Brett Rypien, while 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy is out for the season due to a torn meniscus.
