
MECKLENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A person is dead following a water rescuein a pond just outside of South Hill on Saturday where officials said they received several reports that a person never returned to the water’s surface after their kayak overturned.
On Saturday, Nov. 30, South Hill Fire was dispatched to a pond off of Highway 47, just outside of the town of South Hill, after officials said they received several calls stating that a male subject had been kayaking when his kayak overturned and he did not return to the water’s surface.PEOPLE reported earlier this month that Ryan Borgwardt, 45 — who was previously presumed to have drowned after going kayaking in Green Lake in August — had resurfaced in Eastern Europe and had sent a 24-second-long “proof of life video” to authorities on Nov. 11.n the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 10, Borgwardt was then booked into the Green Lake County Jail, outlets including the Associated Press, CNN and ABC News reported, citing the Victim Information and Notification Everyday system. No charges were listed, according to the publications.
