Tyreek Hill’s wrist injury is serious enough to warrant consideration for surgery, but the star Miami Dolphins receiver plans to delay the procedure until after the 2024 season.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Hill explained that he will play in Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Raiders, with pain management allowing him to continue. “At the end of the day, I just have to suck it up and deal with the pain,” Hill said. “It’s going to get worse the more I play, but I’ve got to push through it for my team. I’m here, locked in, no matter what. Even if I have to cut my wrist off, I’ll still be out there because I love football.”
Hill noted that surgery had been discussed with doctors, but ultimately, the decision to stay on the field is his. “It’s my call, and my call is to stay out there.”
Hill did not carry an injury designation in the Dolphins’ final injury report for Week 11. He initially hurt his wrist during summer joint practices with the Washington Commanders and had been playing through the injury for much of the season. However, it worsened in the lead-up to the Dolphins’ Monday night game against the Los Angeles Rams, leading to a questionable status. Despite that, Hill played in the game, recording three receptions for 16 yards and a key touchdown.
While Hill has yet to replicate his dominant 2023 season, when he finished as the NFL’s leading receiver, his struggles have been partly due to quarterback instability following Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion in Week 2. However, Hill’s recent comments suggest the absence of Tagovailoa isn’t the only factor.
Despite the challenges, Hill remains committed to the 3-6 Dolphins, who are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive with a strong finish to the season.
