Sad Report : Ohio State Swimming and Diving Programs Loses Top Legendary Coach.

Ohio State University mourns the passing of legendary swimming coach Dick Sloan at the age of 88.

Sloan led the Ohio State swimming program for 14 years, from 1976 to 1989, guiding his swimmers to eight Big Ten titles and producing four All-Americans. He also served as a special assistant to the Director of Athletics for over a decade.

Prior to his time at Ohio State, Sloan enjoyed successful coaching stints at Illinois, Lakewood High School, and Kenyon College.

Ohio State Director of Swimming and Diving, Bill Dorenkott, praised Sloan as “one of the truly good guys of our profession,” emphasizing his positive impact on countless athletes and his enduring legacy within the Buckeye community.

Sloan will be deeply missed by the Ohio State swimming and diving family and the entire collegiate swimming community.
