Many international travelers find embarking on a cruise against the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour to be a unique experience. However, have you ever considered starting your journey from New York City instead? Despite my deep affection for Sydney, I must admit there’s something truly remarkable about viewing the New York City skyline and sailing past the Statue of Liberty. This experience, which I recently enjoyed aboard the MSC Meraviglia bound for the Caribbean, is truly unparalleled. If you’re curious about setting sail from New York City, it’s an opportunity worth considering.
This was my second cruise, the first with MSC, and I was taken aback by the sheer size of the ship. Boarding was effortless, and my first stop was the pool deck, where families and groups in matching t-shirts were already claiming their spots. Grabbing a slice of pizza and a tropical cocktail, I settled in to enjoy the view. Soon, we set sail, passing by the iconic Statue of Liberty as we headed out to sea.
On my first day at sea, I explored the MSC Meraviglia in depth. The Galleria Meraviglia, a 96-meter-long strip lined with shops, restaurants, and bars, was my initial destination. The Jean-Philippe Maury chocolaterie on the promenade caught my eye, offering delightful treats and a glimpse into the artistry of chocolate-making. The ship’s highlight, the Infinity Atrium with its Swarovski crystal staircases, was particularly stunning, especially at night when the LED roof illuminated the two-story promenade.
Throughout the week, I made it a mission to experience all the ship had to offer, from stage performances in venues like the Broadway Theatre and Carousel Lounge to relaxing spa treatments and yoga classes. The ship proved to be exceptionally family-friendly, with extensive facilities for children and ample adult spaces.
Our itinerary, originally set for Florida and the Bahamas, was adjusted due to unforeseen circumstances, leading to an additional sea day and a missed stop in Nassau. Despite this change, our visit to Port Canaveral provided memorable experiences like Cocoa Beach and witnessing a SpaceX rocket launch from the ship. The highlight, however, was our final port of call at MSC Marine Reserve Ocean Cay in the Bahamas, where pristine beaches and various activities awaited.
MSC Meraviglia truly offered an unforgettable cruise experience, blending relaxation, entertainment, and exploration in a way that exceeded my expectations.
