The Chicago Bears are struggling to keep up with the Detroit Lions in their Thanksgiving game, but things could have gotten even worse if Caleb Williams had suffered a serious injury. Chicago’s worst fear almost came true when Williams entered the injury tent after his legs were rolled up beneath him while attempting to get out of bounds.
Tensions rose as he stayed on the ground, but fortunately, Williams avoided any major injury and was able to return to the game. Upon his return, he connected with Keenan Allen for an impressive 31-yard touchdown pass, putting the Bears on the scoreboard and giving them a chance to stay competitive. However, Detroit responded with a touchdown of their own, extending their lead to 23-7.
Williams’ touchdown pass to Allen was a rare highlight in an otherwise sluggish offensive performance. The Bears struggled throughout the game, totaling just 177 yards by the end of the third quarter, compared to the Lions’ 342 yards. Still, the Bears showed some life in the fourth quarter, with Williams finding Allen in the back of the end zone again. However, the Bears’ two-point conversion attempt failed, leaving the score at 23-13.
On the day, Williams completed 13 of 25 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Although he showed signs of life in the second half, it may be too little too late unless the Bears can completely shut down the Lions.
At this point in the season, the Bears are more focused on ensuring their rookie quarterback stays healthy, as wins have been hard to come by. With development being a priority, the team can take some comfort in knowing that Williams’ injury scare was ultimately nothing more than that.
