Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe recently shared his view that Aston Villa manager Unai Emery would be his top pick to succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Sharpe, who once won the Premier League under Sir Alex Ferguson, believes Emery is an ideal candidate but doubts he would leave Aston Villa due to his success there.
Villa is currently performing well, standing in fourth place in the Premier League and leading their Champions League group, contrasting sharply with United’s struggles this season.
Though Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly close to taking over after Ten Hag’s departure, Sharpe remains vocal about his preference for Emery.
Speaking to BestBettingSites.com, Sharpe said he’d favor Emery over other candidates, including Barcelona’s Xavi. He added that Emery is unlikely to leave Villa, considering how well things are going for him in the Midlands.
Sharpe’s perspective contrasts with that of former United midfielder Paul Scholes, who expressed confidence that Emery would take the United job if approached.
On talkSPORT, Scholes stated, “If Man United went for Unai Emery tomorrow, I’m pretty sure he would walk there,” highlighting a different opinion on Emery’s willingness to join United amidst Villa’s ongoing successes.
Villa fans and the BirminghamLive community have also weighed in on the topic, reflecting the high regard Villa supporters hold for Emery.
With Emery’s recent achievements, including propelling Villa into the Champions League race, the club appears set on retaining the Spaniard to drive further success.
